Make it with you. . .

Things are starting to heat up in Aotearoa.  Summer is here, the rainy days are becoming fewer and far between and people are already starting to hit the beaches in the weekends.  I associate this next track with road trips and hot sticky summer days with icecream stuck to my fingers, melted chocolate that gets on your clothes in the back seat of the car when you and your friends all try to pile in and forget about that blasted bar.

Hey have you ever tried
Really reaching out for the other side
I may be climbing on rainbows
But baby, here goes

Have you hung out with a dreamer?  It can either be the most rewarding or the most frustrating experience of your life.  He will show you things that you didn't know and try to find some common ground.  You're never really quite sure whether he's doing that to impress you and he's putting on an act but then you quickly start to realise - nope - this is exactly what he's like all the time, it's too far gone to be an act that's put on for your amusement.

Dreams they're for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if you're wondering where this song is leading to
I want to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

After the preamble is over and then he finally reaches the place where he pitches you the idea - that he thinks he can make it with you.  The only response you can have is to laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.  It's obvious to you that logic isn't a skill or aptitude he possesses and it doesn't even look like he thinks it matters anyway.  He is your typical ne'erdowell roaming through life, coasting on his looks and charm, never really having had to walk an honest day in his life - and why would he?  That kind of life isn't meant for him.  Yet he thinks he can make it with you?  All you can do is shake your head and smile, because you know it will never amount to anything.

No, you don't know me well
In every little thing, only time will tell
But you believe the things that I do
And we'll see it through

I guess the "getting to know him" process is supposed to allay any fears that you have about his behaviour but in actual fact, he's unpredictable, does things without a thought for your feelings and doesn't really see anything wrong with what he does, as long as he's calling the shots.  After a time he convinces you that everything does is not only normal, but that everyone else is living their lives completely wrong and you are the only two people in the whole wide world that has everything right.  What could you possibly have been able to see through together?

Life can be short or long
Love can be right or wrong
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it girl. . .

The irony finally hits you that of all the girls that he surrounds himself with - he picks you - the one girl who has everything together and has places to go, people to see, things to transform, trying to improve lives and make a positive difference - but no, he wants to turn your world upside down and create the kind of upheaval that only he can bring.

The only thing that you can do, is to keep your wits about you and outwit him yourself and push him towards making that hard decision (for himself really, not for you) to choose some other girl to make it with.  It's not long before you see him entertain someone else with his suave and charming ways and initially though it might cause your nose to wrinkle, you realise that you've escaped a potential disaster being with a guy like, a most unsuitable candidate to share your dreams with.  You totally understand after the fact, that you had greater things to consider rather than be the woman to help him through whatever issues he had.  You were meant to live a destiny that has a far greater calling and put you in the pathways of people who really need you to help them through.

You should be ecstatic.  You've really made it girl :-)
