We ain't ever gonna be respectable. . .

Take or leave us only please believe us
We ain't ever gonna be respectable. . .

Who didn't love Mel & Kim if you were a child of the 80s?  They were a sister duo act from England, the brainchild of Stock Aitken & Waterman who were responsible for other notable 80s and early 90s acts like Rick Astley and Kylie Minogue.

It's our occupation
We're a dancing nation
We keep the pressure on every night
Explanations are complications
We don't need to know the where or why

I love this song because it's a feel good dance song that doesn't put on airs.  It symbolises to me the importance of knowing yourself and being true to yourself.  It brings to mind for me the idea that if you're going to work hard, you might as well play hard as well.

Taking chances
Bold advances
Don't care if you think we're out of line
Conversation is interrogation
Get out of here
We just don't have the time

You only have one life to live, so if there are chances to be taken, and bold advances to be made, then do it.  I don't know about you, but I really do hate conversations with people where they use them to interrogate you, to find out information about you in an underhanded way - rather than just coming right out with it and asking without concealing their true intentions.  To each their own I guess, but I think plain speak allows people to use their time for more productive things - rather than decoding sentences in a conversation. Like Billy Joel has said in another song - I don't want clever conversation, I never want to work that hard (depends on the situation of course).

Hesitation is just frustration
Give us the music and we're all right
On each occasion for your information
We can look after ourselves all night

When people try to step in and try to take care of you when it's not the place - it's flattering - but unnecessary.  Their time could be better spent being themselves.  If you have a 'protector' figure in your life - you can tell them in no uncertain terms, thanks, but no thanks - I'm alright.

Fascination is our sensation
We like to put ourselves on the line
Recreation is our destination
So don't wait up for us tonight

In the times that you are out and about, playing hard in between working hard, please don't be a burden to others.  You can put yourself on the line, but take responsibility for yourself so that you don't have to be "that" person that brings all their "mates" and forever be a pariah for bringing those unwanted mates to social occasions.  To cut a long story short - at social events - be you - but don't make it about you.

Take or leave us only please believe us
We ain't ever gonna be respectable. . .
